Summer Is On In Teton Valley ID

With temperatures in the 70s & 80s for the last 4-5 days it would appear summer has begun in Teton Valley Idaho. Driggs has been noticably busy with visitor traffic in town for the summer opening of Grand Targhee and the summer kick off of many music, running and biking events throughout the Valley. Mt biking has been great in the Big Holes, particularly on some of the lower elevation trails. Higher elevations in the Big Holes and Tetons are still snow restricted after an 800+” snow year. Summer skiing at Targhee is reported to be excellent! Fishing is off for now due to high water. This past weekend was predicted to be the peak, so local rivers such as the South Fork and Henry’s should begin t0 clear soon. 4th of July celebrations which will include Wide Spread Panic and Glen Beck, are gearing up in preperation for kick off. You can literally feel Teton Valley gathering momentum. Real estate activity has picked up as well; it is obvious that many buyers are keeping a close eye on properties, list prices and sales activity. Teton Valley has what many buyers want, unlimited recreation, extreme beauty, small town western appeal, peace, quiet and tranquility. Driggs, Victor and Tetonia Idaho and Alta Wyoming are coming alive for the summer season, come on out and join the fun.

Jackson Hole Therapudic Riding Hosts Wounded Warriors!

On Friday June 24th, the Jackson Hole Therapeutic Riding program hosted a group from Wounded Warriors. The event included a 4-5 mile horseback trail ride followed by a full blown western barbecue at the Rockefeller Ranch along the southern border of Grand Teton National Park. After dinner entertainment around the campfire was a cowboy poet and solo guitarist/singer who never missed a beat;knew and played every song request, even Elvis Presley’s “Wise Men Say”.  An absolutely beautiful event and an honor for me to meet these young men and women who have served our country in Afghanistan and Iraq and returned home injured. Watching some of the young soldiers stumble through some dance moves with a couple of the cute young cowgirls in attendance was entertaining as well. A great event for a greater than exceptional cause. If you ever get the chance to attend or support a Wounded Warrior event, do so with enthusiasm; a worthy cause and the appreciation will pay you back in spades.

Extensive Trails and Pathways Network Available in Teton Valley, Idaho

Teton Valley, Idaho is fortunate to have an amazing organization called Teton Valley Trails and Pathways made up of volunteer members who’s vision is the creation and maintenance of a “connected community.” The trails and pathways programs are the cornerstones of this connectivity.   Some trails are designated for foot traffic only, or for foot and bicycle traffic. Others are “multiple use” and are shared with motorized recreational vehicles like dirt bikes and 4-wheelers as well. They work with the Caribou-Targhee National Forest’s office in Driggs to help maintain an extensive trail system on public lands surrounding the valley.

There is quite a variety of Nordic skiing in the Teton Valley. Teton Valley Trails and Pathways groom three venues -Teton Canyon, Alta, and Teton Springs-on a regular basis with environmentally friendly 4-stroke Yamaha snowmobiles. All TVTAP venues are free to the community. Maintenance and care are supported by donations and volunteers.

There are also several summer trails that are an experience that will not be forgotten. The Aspen Trail is one of the premiere hiking and biking trails in Teton Valley because of it’s accessibility. Located on the East side of the Valley this trail affords you wonderful views of the Valley. The Horseshoe Canyon Trail is not for the timid, but a newly routed addition makes getting to the Mount Manning Trail a much more obtainable objective. Loved by mountain bikers, and the robust hiker, this trail affords the rider a spectacular downhill experience with views of the Tetons that few get to lay their eyes on. The Jedediah Smith Wilderness Area accessed through multiple trails on the eastern side of Teton Valley, this area is a true gem. While most people are accessing the wilderness areas of Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone, the “Jed” Smith Wilderness remains quiet and full of splendor without the crowds.

These are just a few of the amazing trails available in Teton Valley that will help make your experience in our valley one you will never forget!  For more information on Teton Valley’s trails and pathways visit www.tvtap.org.

Tour Divide (TD) Mountain Bike Race Detours Through Teton Valley Idaho!

The 2011 Tour Divide, long distance endurance mountain bike ride from Banff Alberta Canada to Antelope Well, New Mexico USA has been detoured through Teton Valley, Driggs and Victor IDdue to excessive snow pack in the mountains. I just shook the hand of Mike Hall who is a rookie rider and in fourth place. I caught him on a quick rest stop between Victor and Driggs. He seemed in good shape and was smiling as he rode of towards the grueling grind of Teton Pass which is the next obstacle ahead of him. Really cool to watch one of these exceptional athletes ride by! Visit www.tourdivide.orgto follow this race and track these riders. Really cool up to the minute info on where they are, who’s in the lead, how fast their traveling and how many miles. Roughly, these riders have ridden over 1000 miles in the last 7 days, studs!!
