Grand Targhee Ski Resort approaches 500″ mark.

Skiing at Grand Targhee has been top notch. They have received 22″ of great spring powder snow in the last 2 days. Total to date reported snow fall for the season is 484″. For those of you without a calculater handy; that’s a little over 40 feet of snow. More than enough to bury my house if it fell down here on the floor of Teton Valley. Folks in Idaho Falls might be gearing up to play golf but there is still alot of great spring skiing to be had here at Grand Targhee in Alta Wyoming.

Geotourism, National Geographic and Teton Valley

The National Geographic Society defines geotourism as tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place – its enviornment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents”. Geotourism promotes a virtuous circle whereby tourism revenues provide a local incentive to protect what tourists are coming to see. WOW, that is an enlightened and insightful concept! Could this be in the future for Teton Valley? Not only does it sound so, but perhaps soon. According to the March 23, 2011 edition of the Valley Citizen (www.valleycitizen.com) ground could be broken as early as this summer for construction of the proposed Scenic Byway Center in Driggs. Proposal and support of the Scenic Byway Center has grown to include the concept of Geotourism. Economically stimulating for Teton Valley? I think so. Google Geotourism and spend 20 minutes reading the top 5-6 articles. This is a pretty impressive concept.

Home Inspection Home Inspectors

A home inspection by a qualified home inspector is an important component of virtually every home purchase. It is worth mentioning, the home inspector does not generally tell the Buyer what’s wrong with a home or how much it will cost to repair. They point out whatever they discover so the home buyer can determine if further investigation is desirable. Home inspections are usually non-invasive. Inspectors don’t move furniture, look behind wall art, or generally investigate anything they can’t readily see. I only mention because I think the home inspection is frequently mis-interpreted as a all around soundness or structural inspection. Inspectors job is to notice anything out of the ordinary, and point it out.

Pedestrian Friendly – Downtown Driggs, Idaho!

Main Street in Driggs is scheduled for $4.3 million improvement project beginning in May 2011.  Beyond improving the deteriorating road surface; focus of the project will provide a more pedestrian-friendly and aesthetically pleasing streetscape as well as improving wheel chair access. Will this state funded project improve the value of real estate in the Driggs downtown core and Teton Valley as a whole?   You bet it will! Addition of widened sidewalks, street trees, bike racks and benches will beautify downtown, encourage foot traffic, likely cause those that may otherwise pass through at 25 MPH to pull over for a closer look. Driggs has come a long way towards downtown improvement. Addition of the Driggs Community Center several years ago was a fantastic start. Recent improvements such as The Colter Building, 2010 historic renovation and restoration of the Key Bank building on the corner of Main and E Little, and the incredibly tasteful storefront renovation of Alpine Wines are all precursors to the future of Driggs Idaho and Teton Valley. Economically, this little western enclave may be struggling at this time. There are those that believe in the viability and staying power of this mixed agricultural/resort community. Those folks are investing in Teton Valley Idaho. My bet is their investment will pay off! This state funded improvement of downtown is just another step in the right direction.
